Ramadan and Its Virtues : What you need to know

It is widely known that this year's Ramadan is starting on the 23rd of April, all other things been equal. Thought it might change probably plus or minus a day depending on when the moon has been sighted and depending on when Shaaban  complete 30days. May Allah see us through it.
But before we enter the month of Ramadan, I want us to know the meaning and the virtues embedded in the Holy month of Ramadan as one of the best month according to the Holy Qur’an.
Below are some clarifications about what Ramadan entails.

What is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar which is a lunar calendar based on the cycles of the moon. It is the most sacred month of the year in Islamic culture. Traditionally, people searched for the slight crescent using the naked eye, which has led to the declaration of different starting times for Ramadan, due to weather or geography. However, in many parts of the world, Ramadan still does not begin until religious leaders announce that they have personally seen the crescent moon.

Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship. Observances begin the morning after the crescent moon is visibly sighted, marking the beginning of the new month and the fasting also ends by the same scenario. During this month, All Muslims, from the age of puberty, who are physically and mentally well, should observe fasting. Fasting involves abstaining from eating, drinking, smoking and sexual relations from dawn to sunset for 29 or 30 days of Ramadan in the hopes that it will lead to greater "taqwa" (consciousness of God).
"It is also known as intermittent fasting."

What are the Purposes and objectives  of fasting in the month of Ramadan?

The main reason behind fasting is to attain piety and to testifies to total submission and obedience to the will of the Almighty.

Meanwhile , exemptions to fasting include;
travel,
menstruation,
severe illness, pregnancy,
and breastfeeding.
These categories of people may postpone it:

The very old and permanently ill are excused from fasting. They feed a poor person for every day of Ramadan.

The usual activities of Ramadan which are common to all Muslims individual  include the following:
* fasting during the same month.
* waiting for the time to break the fast in the evening,
* congregational Tarawih Prayers observed in the mosque after breaking the fast.
* the Night of Power (Laylat al-Qadr).
* The Eid celebration (Eid al-Fitr) at the end of Ramadan strengthen the social ties among believers.
Hadith;
Allah’s Messenger says: “The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, and fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb aches, the whole body aches because of sleeplessness and fever.”

What are the religious rules governing fasting in this holly month?
Muslims are expected to fast from all (Halal) foods and drinks, including water, from dawn until sunset each day during Ramadan.
No to drinking of any kind during the fasting daylight hours, practicing Muslims are not permitted to consume water. Instead, it's recommended that anyone fasting drink as much water as possible in the early morning ( at Sahuur) to ward off thirst during the day.

More also,
The following actions can led to the  breaking of your fast during Ramadan:
*Drinking or eating while fasting.
* Brushing the teeth and gargling (Beyond limitations)
* Health-related issues.
* Applying lipstick, nail polish and perfumes for women.
* Cursing, speaking evils, lying, telling tales, falsely testifying, listening to unnecessary music, watching pornography movies.
* Intimacy between married couples.
* Taking a dip in a swimming pool or a shower. (Unnecessarily placing of head in water for a period of long time)

The best time to make supplications during Ramadan are:
1.during all nights of Ramadan
2.During the night of Majesty or  night of decree
3.when opening a fast at dusk

Prayers when Opening a fast at dusk:

It is mentioned in a Hadith that at the time of opening the fast, the person is permitted to make a dua whose acceptance is promised.

It is mentioned in a Hadith that when food is presented to you at the time of iftaar, then prior to opening your fast you should recite the following dua,
“Allahumo laka sumtu wa alaa rizqika aftortu fataqobalahu minniy”
Translation: "In the name of Allah. All praise is due to Allah. O Allah! I have fasted for Your pleasure, it is with Your sustenance that I am opening my fast, and I have placed complete trust in You Accept this fast from me.

The other Virtues of Ramadan, its benefits and Laylatul Quadri will be discussed in our next post. Stay tuned and endeavour to share this to Muslims throughout the universe. I pray we witness this year's Ramadan and subsequent ones In Sha Allah.

Salam aleykum warahmotullah Wabarakatu.

Covid-19 Lockdown : Halal challenges you should engage in.

In its effort to battle against the Covid-19 pandemic and to curtail its spread, the federal government on the 30th of March, 2020 enforced a 14-days lockdown in some part of the country which has result to boredom for some people. In order to get rid of this boredom, the populace especially the youths has decided to engage themselves in different challenges on social media, challenges like pregnancy challenge, BOP Challenge, Don't rush challenge, bucket list, some even go to the extent of  alcohol drinking challenge, Subhanallah.
In order to curb all this unnecessary challenges which are not adding value to our lives, the writer of this piece has come along with challenges people can partake in that will be useful to them.
Underlisted are some of those challenges :

1) Quran Memorization Challenges:

As a Muslim, memorizing Quran is one thing we should all be looking forward to achieve. Qur’an memorization is of benefit in this life and hereafter. We should all endeavour to use this period to memorize some chapters and verses of the Holy Qur’an.

2) Qur’an Recitation Challenges : The Prophet (PBUH) says"We should beautify the Holy Qur’an with our voices ", as Muslim some of us can't recite the Quran with Tejwid. As Muslims, we should cease this moment to learn how to recite the Qur’an with sweet voices.

3) Tilawatul' Qur’an /Qur’an Revising : Tilawatul Qur’an is a great exercise that has a great reward from Allah. As a Muslim we can use this period to finish a while Quran within one week. It's very easy, this is the break down, The Holy Qur’an has 30 Juz. We pray five times daily, now if we recite one Juz per Solat, we will finish 5 Juz in a day, and 30 Juz in 6 days. Let's endeavour to finish the Qur’an and pray with it during the period.

4)New Language learning challenge :

As we all know we are in Anglo-phonic and Franco-phonic continent. Been a bilingual or multilingual in this continent pays a lot. We can cease this opportunity to learn some basic elements of a foreign language. To learn a language at our own convenience, the Duolingo app is available for us. Download it and start a new language class at your own pace.

5) New Skill or Knowledge Acquisition challenge :

Seeking knowledge is compulsory for all Muslim males and females is the hadith of The Holy Prophet (PBUH). Its very easy to learn a new skill or knowledge in this era, sites and like coursera.com, udemy.com, Allison.com, Google digital skills etc etc are available for our own use for learning a new skill at our own pace. Skills like Microsoft Office skills, Data management, Programming language etc etc can be learnt at our own convenience.

If there are other challenges you think people should engage in, put it on comment session for others to benefit.

Brethren, let's use this moment to improve on our spiritual, physical and intellectual lives. I pray this Covid-19 pandemic will be eradicated totally from our lands.

Covid-19 Relief Package : Nasfat Ijebuland donates food items to less privileged members.

In its own way to support the members of the society and compliment the government's effort during the Covid-19 lockdown, Nasfat Ijebuland yesterday donated food items to vulnerable and less privileged members of the society. This activity took place at the Nasfat Ijebuland Islamic center ijebu ode.

During this session, the beneficiaries were also given lecture on the preventive measures to take during this period.

Covid-19 Lockdown : Sheikh Robiu condemns government action.

The founder and grand lecturer of Dawah tul Haq, His Eminence Shiekh Abd-Malik Robiu Adebayo hs condemned the actions of Nigerian government of not providing food for the mass during lockdown. Though he commended the actions taken by the government to fight against the Covid-19 outbreak, but he said in his words that of all the actions, not providing food for the masses will affect the lockdown rules because some people have to go out on a daily basis before getting their daily bread.

His Eminence Shiekh Abd-Malik Robiu Adebayo (RTA)
In his words, he said the federal government should emulate what other foreign countries are doing by providing for the citizens foods which will be enough for the people so that the lockdown rule will be obeyed by the people. He said non-provision of food for the masses will make people go out and seek what they want to eat by themselves which will alter the lockdown rules.

THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN ADDRESS BY GOVERNOR DAPO ABIODUN ON APRIL, 3RD APRIL, 2020

TEXT OF PRESS CONFERENCE DELIVERED BY THE
GOVERNOR OF OGUN STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, PRINCE DAPO ABIODUN MFR, ON THE COMMENCEMENT OF COVID-19 LOCKDOWN HELD ON APRIL, 3RD APRIL, 2020

As we approach the timeline for the total lockdown of Ogun State, as part of the measures to contain and curtail the spread of corona virus in the state, I thought it is necessary to unveil some measures aimed at achieving the objectives of the lockdown and minimise the impact on our people.

2. You may recall that Ogun State government had announced the closure of our borders with other states and the international border with Benin Republic on Saturday, 28 March, 2020, which was to be effective the following day. Incidentally, the President delivered a nationwide broadcast on Sunday, 29th March, 2020 in which he announced a lockdown in three locations: Lagos and Ogun States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The lockdown was to be effective the following day, Monday, 30th March, 2020 from 11pm. Once again, on behalf of the government and good people of ogun State, I thank Mr. President for the leadership he has continued to provide for the country, the effort to combat the corona virus and the well-thought-out measures announced in the broadcast. In particular, the recognition of the peculiar position of our state with regards to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

3. Ogun State government made a request to the Presidency for a shift in the commencement of the lockdown to today, Friday, to enable residents of the state prepare for the period of the lockdown and to allow the state government finalise the mechanisms for the distribution of the relief materials to our people, particularly the poor and the vulnerable, to cope with the challenges of the lock down. Again, we appreciate the gracious approval of the Presidency of our request.

4. Whilst the closure of our borders with has been effected from Monday, as announced by the President, I wish to remind Ogun residents and confirm that the lockdown will come into effect today, Friday, 3rd April, 2020 at 11.00pm. Once again, I enjoin all and sundry to fully comply with these measures and regard them as necessary sacrifices to safeguard ourselves from the dreaded and rampaging virus. From the first index case in our state about a month ago, the number of positive cases in the country is inching towards 200. And it is particularly worrisome that the number has doubled in less than one week. Therefore, any measure, particularly aimed at enforcing social distancing considered very potent to flatten the spread of the virus should be supported by all.
Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, Ogun State Governor

5. Let me now provide specific details of the measures to cushion the effect on the lockdown on our people.

6. The government is providing immediately various food items, neatly packed, to 100,000 households across our state in the first instance. The target is to reach 500,000 households in all. The objective is that whilst this number may not capture all the residents of the state, it will reach significant number of the intended beneficiaries, the poor and the vulnerable.

7. Each food park contains the following items, considered to be staple amongst the majority of our citizens:

i. 5kg of rice
ii. 5kg of beans
iii. 5kg of gari
iv. Salt
v. Seasoning cubes
vi. 4 Nos. Vegetable Oil Sachets
vii. 5 Nos. Tomato Puree sachets.

These are the core items procured by the government. Some other food and personal hygiene items have been donated by public spirited individuals and organisations, these will also be distributed as appropriate.

8. I want to appeal to our people that to avoid stampede and unnecessary struggles in the course of distribution of the items. It will be an on-going process that will go around the mapped beneficiaries in due course. We should also maintain social distancing at all times to avoid the distribution points being unwittingly turned to arena for potential infections.

9. We have put in place a mechanism to ensure a seamless and efficient distribution process of the relief materials. First, we have established a food barn in each of our three Senatorial Districts, from where the food items will be distributed to the respective Local Government Areas. Second, we have constituted and inaugurated Local Government Relief Material Task Force in all the twenty local governments. The composition of the task force is multi-sectoral, broadbased and inclusive to ensure critical segments of the community are in the driver seat for objectively determining, identifying and collating the list of beneficiaries (the poor and vulnerable) in each LGA. It will then ensure fair, equitable and inclusive distribution of the relief materials in an efficient and effective manner.

The committee, which is chaired by the Chairman of the Local government, has as members, Chairman of Community Development Council (CDC) in the LGA – who will serve as Vice- Chairman, Chairman of League of Imams and Alfas, and Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria and Chairman of Council of Baales. Other members are representative of Market Women, Member(s) of House of Assembly, a maximum of two Political Office holders from the LGA4and a Permanent Secretary or a Director Level Staff in the State’s Public Service from the LGA. The Head of Local Government Administration in the Local Government will serve as Secretary. The Task Force is replicated in each of our 236 Wards in the state to ensure the relief materials get to the grassroots.

10. Let me warn that any report of diversion or any other sharp practices that undermine the objectives of the relief materials will be viewed seriously. Indeed, there will be consequences. Corona virus has traumatised us collectively enough, and the government will not tolerate anyone further taking advantage of our people, particularly in these trying times. To this end, the various Task Forces are expected to submit periodic reports that will provide at least basic information that could be used to audit the exercise in each ward and local government and randomly confirm and contact beneficiaries.

11. Other measures that are in place to mitigate the effects of the lockdown are:

a) The lockdown will be total from now till 7.00am on Tuesday. The lockdown will be suspended between 7.00am and 2.00pm to allow for essential business activities.

This 7.00am to 2.00pm window will be observed every other day therefrom i. e Tuesday instant, Thursday, and Saturday for the coming week.

b)Telemedicine to provide access to healthcare and health information during the lockdown.

c) Decontamination of the State. Public spaces such as markets, parks, and others will be fumigated across the state for the next few days, while the lockdown lasts.

d) Personnel on essential services, such as health, security, fire petroleum products dealers and food producers and distributors, will continue to have limited movement required to perform their sensitive duties.

12. The cumulative number of confirmed cases so far in Ogun State is four, out of which two have been discharged. Nonetheless, our team continues on active surveillance and screening. Indeed, we have carried out 83 tests (including the 4 confirmed cases earlier mentioned). 64 tested negative whilst we are awaiting 11 results. In addition, we have traced 111 contacts of which 39 have been discharged. Another 71 will complete their 14-day monitoring period tomorrow.

13. Even as we hope for the best, we have continued to prepare for the worst, by ramping up our level of preparedness. Few days ago, I unveiled our isolation and treatment facilities that have combined about 300 bed spaces. Subsequently, we have acquired 12 ventilators. And we are grateful to the Redeemed Christian Church of God for the donation of 2 ventilators and ICU equipment making it a total of 14 ventilators in Ogun State. In the next few days, the first state fully funded Molecular Laboratory in Nigeria will be unveiled in Ogun State. This will reduce the test turn-around time from the current average of 3-5 days to 8 hours, minimise the anxiety of screened individuals and their families while the test is awaited, and also minimise the exposure of health professionals.

14. I will like to use this opportunity to thank all those who have donated cash, physical infrastructure, food items and other items to the COVID fund set up by the state. Posterity will be kind to you for standing to be counted at this period in history. I am particarly thrilled by the small but very significant donation from the youngest donor so far, Oluwashikemi Ogunleye. She used our USSD Code to donate 950 Naira. Oluwashikemi, I am proud to be the governor of a philanthropist like you. You are indeed the symbol of giving of ourselves to ourselves, and the future we are building together. I call on others to come forward and support the fight against COVID.

15. Before I conclude, let reiterate the need to wash our hands regularly with water and soap or use hand sanitizer, use face mask and maintain social distance. Face mask has the benefits of shielding the afflicted from infecting others and vice versa.
Once again, I thank our health team, media, donors, stakeholders for the commitment. But for their surveillance, the many returnees from outside the country some of whom have now tested positive in Osun State could have found their way into the larger society with the potential to infect many. Our EpidemieOlogist, working with port health officials and immigration identified them at our Idiroko border and escorted them to their destination. I thank you all again and pray that the afflicted will recover sooner than later while the spread is contained. Together, we will defeat COVID-19.

16. I thank you all for listening, and God bless.

“Igbega Ipinle Ogun, Ajose Gbogbo wa ni”

Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR
Governor of Ogun State.

The former youth coordinator of Nasfat Ogun Zone and veteran computer programmer Quassim Noibi, who is popularly known as Noibilism say he despise Barca fans. He made this known to people during a blogging session class held last night on the Nasfat OGUN Zone youth platform. See video below:

Though some Islamic scholars kicked against this immediately he sadi it, one of the Islamic scholars said He should not say that, because the Prophet (PBUH) preaches love against one another irrespective of race, colour or the football team we support . Though some of the members knew Noibilism was only joking but the Islamic scholar said joke or no joke, he has preached what the Prophet taught.
What's your opinion about this?

NASFAT YOUTH WING

INTERNAL MEMORANDUM

DATE: March 29, 2020 (Sha'ban 4, 1441 AH)

FROM: NASFAT Youth Wing Da'wah Desk

TO: All Members of NASFAT Youth Wing Worldwide

SUBJECT: Corona Virus (COVID-19) Pandemic-Claryfing The Misconceptions

As-Salam Aleikum,
Bismillah Rahman Raheem

Allah say in Surah Al-Anaam, Verse 17:
وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلَّا هُوَ وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

And if Allah touch you with affliction, there is none to take it off but He; and if He visit you with good, then He has power over all things.

The global pandemic-Corona Virus (COVID-19) is real! There are some pieces of misinformation concerning the cure to COVID-19 which are not inline with Islamic injunction.

Explicitly:
 1. There is no Hair of the Prophet in Suratul Baqarah or on any page of the Mushaf. The Quran is meant to be recited and pondered over, it's not a storage for hairs.

2. Chloroquine is not officially declared as the cure for the virus. It was alleged, but health organizations debunked it.

3. Stop manufacturing various unfounded supplications for people, stop forcing people to share certain duas with their contacts, what we have are the well known supplications against illnesses and diseases in the Quran and authentic Sunnah.

Allah says in Surah An-Najm, Verse 58:
لَيْسَ لَهَا مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ

There shall be none besides Allah to remove it.

 If Then:
1. Wash your hands frequently with soap and clean water;
2. Avoid unnecessary touching of your eyes, nose and mouth after contacts with animate and inanimate beings;
